This self-guided tour combines Japan's main highlight destinations with a two night stay in the glorious Kiso Valley. The Kiso area offers spectacular views of the natural scenery where you can soak in the spiritual, tranquil atmosphere this area is so famous for.
Walk part of the ancient Nakasendo pilgrimage trail between the two post-towns Magome and Tsumago. Along the trail you will find spectacular views of Japan's countryside, English signage and a few small tea houses where you can take a break from the hiking if needed. The Nakasendo trail is easy to moderate level of difficulty and takes 2-3 hours to complete.

Check-out of the Komanoyu and from Kiso-Fukushima Station board a Limited Express Shinano train to Nagoya Station. Within Nagoya Station, change trains to a Limited Express Wide View Hida train to Takayama. Your accommodation at the Hida Hotel Plaza is a three minute walk from the station.

Other attractions you might also want to visit is Takayama Shrine, Takayama's famous lush and picturesque Shiroyama Park and the Higashiyama Temple Area.
For dinner tonight you may like to find a restaurant which serves the locally produced Hida beef which is delicious in sukiyaki or grilled on a hot plate.
