From Ikebukuro Station, catch a JR Tokaido Line train to Yokohama Station. (17 min)
Commence exploring the attractions of Yokohama including:
Yokohama Minato Mirai 21 – the major centre for business, shopping and tourism which is home to Landmark Tower, Queen’s Square and Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, Yokohama Museum of Art and Nippon Maru, the four-masted sailing ship permanently docked on the harbour and housing a museum.
Yokohama China Town - the largest Chinatown in Asia and alive with gourmet tea shops, dried goods shops, and shops selling everything from good luck charms to Chinese clothing.
Yamashita Park – a seaside park constructed in 1930 by using the rubble from the Great Kanto Earthquake. Stroll through the rose garden and enjoy the ocean views.
Next visit the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum, a unique museum about ramen, the very popular Japanese noodle dish which was originally introduced from China. From Yokohama Station board a JR Yokohama Local line train to Shin-Yokohama Station. (15 min) The museum is a 5-minute walk from the station.
The gallery presents the history of ramen noodles in Japan, including the big success of instant ramen, the variety of noodles, soups, toppings and various bowls used across Japan, and shows how the noodles are made. On the basement floor, go back in time and visit the museum’s replica streets and houses of Tokyo’s old town around 1958, when the popularity of ramen was rapidly increasing. Ramen restaurants can be found here, each serving a ramen dish from a different region of Japan. Every restaurant offers "mini ramen" so you can sample a number of small portions.
Return to Shinagawa in the late afternoon.
