Day 01 - Arrive Sapporo

Welcome to Japan! Upon arrival at New Chitose Airport, clear customs with your luggage and exit to the arrivals lobby.

Board your private transfer to your accommodation at the Sapporo Grand Hotel. (80 mins)

For dinner, you may like to visit the Sapporo Beer Garden's Genghis Khan Hall where you can feast on the popular local dish of barbequed mutton, washed down with the famous Sapporo Beer.

Day 02 - Sapporo - Otaru - Sapporo

Make a day trip to Otaru by boarding a JR Semi Rapid Ishikari Liner, JR Hakodate Line or JR Airport Rapid train to Otaru Station. (30-50 mins)

Otaru is a small harbor city full of character thanks to the beautiful warehouse-lined canals and buildings from former trade and shipping companies.

Stroll along the canal, and visit Sakaimachi Street with its attractive, old buildings that have since been converted into cafes, boutiques and museums. Visit the Otaru City Museum (09:30 - 17:00/JPY300) to discover Otaru's history and the early development of Hokkaido.

Next visit the Herring Mansion (09:00 - 17:00/JPY300) by boarding a city bus #10 or #11 from Otaru Station (25 mins/JPY220). View the tools and living conditions of herring fisherman during the heyday of herring fishing, once one of Otaru's major industries. Since the early days of the town's development right through to the 1950s when the industry collapsed due to a drop in herring stocks, large fortunes were made by leading fishing enterprises. Visit the Aoyama Villa (09:00 - 17:00/JPY1,080), the luxurious villa of one of the most successfully families in the herring industry.

Day 03 - Sapporo - Shakoton Peninsula - Sapporo

Enjoy a private excursion by chartered taxi to the Yoichi area and the stunning Shakotan Peninsula which forms part of the Niseko-Shakotan-Otaru-Beach Quasi-National Park.

Your excursion starts with a visit to the Yoichi Nikka Whiskey factory, where award-winning whiskey, ranked among the world's best single malt whiskeys, is produced.

Next, discover the natural beauty of the Shakotan Peninsula well-known for its capes with unusual rock formations and beautiful sea along the shoreline. The sea surrounding this area is Hokkaido's only designated Marine Park.

Day 04 - Sapporo - Hakodate

Check-out of your accommodation and from Sapporo Station board a Limited Express Hokuto train to Onumakoen Station. (200 mins)

Your accommodation at the Hakodate Onuma Tsuruga Resort EPUY is a five minute walk from the station.

The surroundings of Hakodate Onuma Tsuruga Resort EPUY include a range of natural pleasures, unique Hokkaido activities
and gourmet spots giving you the chance to discover delicious and unique local specialties.

After check-in, explore the beautiful nature scenery of Onuma. This quasi national park covers over 9,000 hectares and has two very attractive lakes, Onuma and Konuma. The area has several walking trails which lead you around the lakes' peninsulas and islands and are interconnected by small bridges. Guests of the hotel can make use of their complimentary bicycles to explore the area.
Sightseeing boats on the lakes offer 30 minute tours for JPY1,100/person.

Day 05 - Hakodate

Make your way into town to explore Hakodate city. From Onumakoen Station board a Limited Express Hokuto train to Hakodate Station. (25 mins)

Visit the Morning Markets (05:30 - 12:00) which span an area of four blocks near the JR Hakodate Station area and enjoy a fresh, seafood breakfast!

Next, board a tram #5 to Suehiro Machi (10 min). Suehiro Machi is bayside area and interesting buildings and museums such as glass museum (old post office), Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse (inside of the warehouse is refurbished as shopping mall).

In the late afternoon, visit Mt Hakodate which is walking distance from Suehiro Machi area. Take a ropeway (JPY1,160/adult for return trip) up to the mountain for an extraordinary panoramic view of Hakodate City.

Day 06 - Hakodate - Tomamu

Check-out of your accommodation and from Onumakoen Station board a Limited Express Hokuto train to Minami-Chitose Station. (165 mins) Change trains and board a Limited Express Ozora train to Tomamu Station. (60 mins)

From Tomamu Station, board the hotel courtesy shuttle bus to your accommodation at the Hoshino Resorts Risonare Tomamu. (5 mins)

A popular ski resort during winter, Tomamu also offers a relaxing space surrounded by spectacular nature during the warmer months. Spend the day exploring the great outdoors, or making use of the resort's facilities.

Day 07 - Tomamu - Lake Akan

This morning, take the Unkai Gondola up to the top of the mountain for the Unkai Terrace, a unique attraction which offers a number of ways to enjoy the Unkai (sea of clouds) which form in the early hours of the morning (weather conditions permitting).

Situated at a height of 1,088m above sea level where clouds occur easily, the Unkai Terrace allows to get experience the sea of clouds up close on its "Cloud Walk" and other observation decks and walking trails. Enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee at the adjacent Tenbou Cafe.

After check-out, board the Limited Express Ozora train from Tomamu Station to Kushiro Station. (154 mins) From Kushiro Station, board the hotel shuttle to your accommodation at the Akan Tsuruga Besso Hinanoza. (120 mins)

"Hina no Za" is Japanese style Ryokan which boasts a picturesque location among the scenery of Japanese countryside and the beautiful mountains and Lake Akan. Each guest room features its own private, natural hot spring onsen bath with views over Lake Akan.

Day 08 - Lake Akan

Spend today exploring the attractions of Lake Akan, the beautiful crater lake in Akan Mashu National Park. Visit the Akankohan Eco Museum Center, a short walk from your accommodation, to learn about the national park and its wildlife. Next to the museum is a walking trail which leads through the forest and along the lake to bubbling mud pools known as bokke.

Discover the traditional arts and crafts of the indigenous Ainu at the Ainu Kotan, a small Ainu village featuring a theatre where traditional dances are performed and a small museum displaying traditional Ainu crafts, clothes and daily life utensils. Here you will also find a number of shops specializing in Ainu handicrafts.

Admire the natural scenery aboard one of the sightseeing boats leaving Akankohan for 1-hour cruises across the lake. Cruises include a stop at the Marimo Exhibition Center on one of the lake's islands and a ride into the more remote sections of the lake.

Day 09 - Lake Akan - Airport

Check-out of your accommodation and board the airport shuttle to New Chitose Airport (6.5 hours) to board your flight home.
